Fundamental Methods of Mathematical Economics, 4th edition -
this textbook is the primary reference material for the lecture
slides. However, the lecture slides are quite comprehensive and
the book itself might have references to a lot of unnecessary
material for the unit.

Comments
The content of the unit itself was not too hard. However, it does
appeal to different crowds. Some who prefer applied methods of
mathematics may find this unit quite dry and boring, while some
who prefer mathematics in general as a discipline of study might
find this unit enjoyable. This unit increased my mathematical
aptitude quite considerably, especially when it comes to reading
more complicated academic material. The assessments are quite
harshly marked, so best be aware of that, and study accordingly
though the content of the unit itself was quite accessible.
The lectures themselves were just a rehash of the content in the
lecture slides, which by itself was already quite comprehensive. I
only attended 1 lecture in the middle of the semester, so I could
manage without watching the lectures. However, students may
prefer the auditory input to maximise the effectiveness of their
own learning.
The tutors go through tutorial questions from the past week and
was generally less engaging. One could get by without going to the
tutorials, and they are not assessed anyways, but going to them
definitely was very beneficial as tutors explain the gnarly concepts
in much more detail compared to the lecture slides.
The group assessments were generally quite accessible, but the
answers needed to be refined and redone a lot to make sure they
were perfect. The assessments are quite harshly marked, so best
be prepared for that mentally.
The exam itself was quite difficult, even though the questions
were similar to the assignments.
This unit can be dry for some people, but the content is quite
accessible especially compared to some of the third year units in
the actuarial degree, however, the assessments are marked quite
harshly, and people do not score well for this unit in general.
