Comments
Content was fairly easy and straightforward and the final exam questions were similar to those of the tutorial however, the exam was time constraining.
The lectures had a good mix of theory being backed up my questions and examples showcasing implementation of the theory. The lectures are uploaded as powerpoint presentations and the lecturer took time to explain every bit of content including how to use the financial calculator. The lectures were fully recorded and the content material could be consolidated with the help of the textbook.
Tutorials were not entirely necessary to understand the content but did help in clarifying doubts in the content which may have seemed vague. The tutors encouraged asking questions in class. They were extremely patient and would answer the same question multiple times if necessary.
Both the final and mid semester exams were extremely time constraining but they were consistent with the tutorial and practice materials.
The weekly quizzes would be hard to complete at times but there would be a help tab open to assist.
The topics were evenly covered in the exam. Sufficient practice material was provided for the exam.
The exam was split into three parts:
Section A: 5 multiple choice x 2 marks each
Section B: 5 numerical answer questions x 2 marks each
Section C: 4 essay questions with different marks.
More emphasis was put in the materials covered in weeks 5 to 12.
Duration of the exam: 2 hours and 10 minutes
Hurdle: 45%
Closed book
Authorized material: financial calculator and 5 blank sheets for working.
Formula sheet is provided.
Theory and concepts are fairly straightforward and easy to grasp
although the exams are unforgiving. Constant practice beyond
material provided and being extremely thorough and testing
yourself against time constraints prior to the final exam is a good
idea in order to score well on the exam.
