Sponsor Presentations
Held throughout the year by major sponsors, these events provide an opportunity for members to sit in on a presentation about working in an actuarial firm. Not only do students get to learn about the work environment, but also the specific type of work that is done in a typical day at the firm. Presentations are followed by a lunch for members and sponsors to allow for some one-on-one interaction and the potential to gain contacts for the future.

Case Competitions

2016 housed the inaugural Quantium Analytics Case Competition, a competition involving large pools of data from Facebook, NAB and Woolworths where students from Monash University and The University of Melbourne can compete against each other for prizes, glory and bragging rights. This competition was highly successful with one of the Monash University teams emerging as champions.
In the coming years, more challenging case competitions will be held between Monash University and The University of Melbourne with data sets provided by our sponsors. Participants will test their skills in analysing available information, crafting a solution, and presenting their decision. Furthermore, these competitions provide a valuable insight into the expectations regarding corporate presentations.
First Year Information Session
This event is targeted at first year actuarial students. Attendees will learn about MASS, what it does and how to get involved along with a short presentation by the Business and Economics Department about the general outline of the actuarial studies course. The presentation also includes advice on planning students’ course and career pathways as well as general advice regarding university. Corporate Tutorials
Run by sponsors, corporate tutorials detail the necessary skills needed in the application process and workplace. These tutorials give our members a competitive advantage in their career through bolstering both their personal and professional development. Events such as Excel workshops and resume writing/interview tips are just a few examples of what will be on offer.
Mock Interviews
MASS facilitates mock interviews which are held on campus and run by one of our sponsors. Members will have the chance to respond to a “mock ad” for a graduate position at our sponsor’s firm. The process is created to fully mimic the real life interview process from application to final interview. Participants will gain access to highly personalised feedback by trained professionals, regarding their performance in the interview. This specialised opportunity for members is definitely not one to miss!
Resume Workshop
Run by Monash Career Connect, the resume workshop is tailored for Monash Business School students. This workshop aims to increase students’ understanding of how to prepare quality and compelling resumes. Topics covered in this workshop include, resume fundamentals, how to write compelling resumes, and actions to improve your resume.
